The Future of Pigeon Racing— smaller teams and Widowhood

For a long time I was concerned about whether or not the sport would exist in the future. I have come to realize that many of us do not change our habits, regardless of how counter productive they are to ourselves until we have no choice. I believe that small race teams which are more [...]

Wyatt Garrett NCC’s young blood

Being 30 years old myself, and having been around birds since I could crawl— it’s so great to see a 13 year old interested in racing the birds.  Wyatt and his father have been building their loft this winter, and we all know how rough it’s been here in the Northeast this year! Wyatt will [...]

The long toss before the race season

My cell phone alarm awakes me at 4:00am on Saturday, July 31st.  I pull myself out of bed to get a head start to the day.  Once I get dressed and prep the birds’ feed and water I head up to the coops to crate up the young bird team.  Today they are going for [...]

The first lesson to learn

The first lesson that one should learn in this game is how to be a good loser.  The friendship that forms from the common passion of racing pigeons needs to be stronger than a need to win.  Of course we all want to win, be consistently flying in the top percentage but if we can’t [...]
